PROJECT ACTIVITIES

The project will be realized trough 6 main activities, each of whom will be managed by one or more partners.

  1. Management, communication and dissemination: this activity deals with the administrative and financial management  of the project. It has twofold objectives:
    1. assuring an effective project management and the accomplishment of all administrative and financial in the respect of all contractual obligations. Project management activities include: financial resources administration, continuous monitoring and information flows evaluation, report preparation, partner agreement constitution, control procedure implementation, etc.
    2. to guarantee an adequate visibility to the project, and the full fulfillment of UE prescriptions as far as dissemination is concerned. Activities includes: a project web site realization,  a communication strategy for local stakeholder, results dissemination, even trough events, conferences, etc
  1. Technical study and design: this activity deals with the principall technical studies of the action and will give the final RIS project and the prototype.  It will be created an inception report, to verify if RIS system is suitable for the river traffic management, on the basis of a preliminary analysis and the main need of operators. Then, a risk evaluation and a cost-benefits analysis will be made, before passing to the prototype executive project, defining the general pilot system requirements and elaborating a preliminary project to answer to the  issues emerging from the data collection.
Then, a software prototype will be created for the following  applications: localization and monitoring, locks management, electronic notification, ENC production system to update cartographic maps, Data Gateway System prototyping for the integration with external systems.
  1. Organization- legal innovation- feasibility plan. This activity includes the adminsitrative model definition, and the RIS system organization. The project will start with the RIS management structure analysis, included administrative structure and the management plan, trough the actual legal political and economic framework analysis, and trough the analysis of the participants authorities role.  The adjustment to the European law will start, and it will be proposed a new juridical asset both at a national and regional level, with the support of the Italian Transport Ministery. A feasibility plan will be elaborated, in order to underline the importance of the development, of the implementation and of the functioning of the systems and services for inland navigation, even with the support of a cost-benefit analysis.
  1. RIS ship simulator development: this activity wants to define the specific properties and the implementation of a customized software for the RIS navigation simulation along  the river of Northern Italy rivers. The development of an integrated RIS simulation tool will require a multi-user software architecture definition, with the possibility to reproduce different work situations.
  1. Pilot implementation: in this activity the system implementation strategy will be developed, assuring the correct transition from system rewuirements to technical solutions, according to the standard previously defined.  The activity includes a pilot site realization for the implementation and demonstration. The prototype will test and confirm the designed technical and organizational  characteristics: the management structure effectiveness, both at a national and regional level and at a remote control level, the data communication between control centers  and boats, the information collection and the distribution.
  1. System integration and validation. The final pilot system integration and its validation will made to verify the functional integration, the interoperabilità and the impact on National inland system navigation, according to the functional requirements defined in the activity 2.

Then, testing e validation will define more recommendation for the complete actuation of the ris system along the Po river and canals.  Some tests will be made: test on the RIS components for the technical evaluation, integration testing, tests for information exchange with the simulator, integration and interoperability tests. The validation phase, then, will  verify the effectiveness of the RIS prototype compared to the designed objectives. At the end a report containing recommendation for the RIS actuation will be made.
